Am I on the right track here?

Unread postby WEA$EL » Wed Sep 13, 2017 5:37 am

I've been watching Dan's podcast and videos and I just wanted to make sure I was understanding this correctly. Here is some hill country near the valley where I live. Are the red dots where I want to start my scouting?

The upper 1/3 is a good place to start. Though a lot of times there will be little humps or points that don't show up on the topo maps that can be Gold.

Just basic mark up to extend what youve already marked. Check an aerial in winter months, find the thickest spots on the points. Youll notice some of the spots on the points I marked are lower than the 1/3. Sometimes when the topo lines spread apart into a gradual decline they need walked out and checked.
Pink - cool looking feature, never seen that before.

Thanks guys. DK I was just reading through the Buck Bedding 101 thread and I think you addressed most of my questions. Thanks for your input on my map!

Cool man! Thats a cool looking area for sure. Could be some nice little overlooked pockets one is living tight to a no go zone. Also, check the water way at the bottom for some tracks.

I'll keep you posted. Our season opens Saturday so I might scout that ridge with a stand on my back.
