This is a great thread. Thanks for putting in the work to organize this.

One tree to add to the oak/acorn list above (at least in the bottomlands of the south) is what we call "cow oak acorns" or more scientifically know as the swamp chestnut acorn.

The acorns they produce are 2-3x larger than a white oak with a small cap making the acorn easily assessable. They are few and far between (and perhaps don't exist where everyone hunts), but a great food source to add to the list.

I've observed deer walk by white oak acorns to feed on cow oaks many times...

Hey guys, I’m a newer member and I’m wading through this post trying to soak it all up! Pretty overwhelming at the moment, so I’m trying to focus on one concept at a time. Right now, I’m looking at the hill country bedding pictures from the post I quoted. Does anyone know which post the originals were first posted in? I’d like to read more into them. For example, I’d like to hear more about why the stand locations and elevations were chosen in the first picture, and I’d like to get more insight into the dots (and what they represent) on the second picture.

Also, thanks for consolidating all of this info in one place. What a great resource! It may take me months to digest it all, but I’m looking forward to it!

I also found this link that speaks more in depth to some of the Hunterra maps that were posted.
