Newbie's First Try at a Bed Cam

Unread postby keepthefevercalls » Tue Aug 22, 2017 11:49 pm

Last year in mid August I hiked back 1.5 miles on public to investigate a tiny hump on a topo. The area looked okay to my eyes, but i wasn't sure. After looking around a bit I found multiple spots that I thought were beds spread out above the bench. They were all behind root balls or humps. So, I hung a camera over one that was still matted down with a few hairs in it.
I forgot to drop a pin where my camera was  and I thought after I left it there that it was probably only going to get used hard when the acorns dropped, they came early last year.
I was pleasantly surprised not only to actually find the camera, but to see it had about 600 pics!
These are just a few highlights. Now I have the confidence when we move to do a bed cam and a couple preorbital cams.
Sorry the time stamps are out of order.
Couple pics of the bed too. They can bed looking up or down depending on wind and thermals.

Thank you for sharing! Excellent pics! I really like that buck pic cruising right thru the doe bed. :D Also the pic of one doe out cold is great! Your pics tell many stories.

We're there any bedded buck pics outside the rut? In curious if the bed was being utilized by both bucks and does outside of the rut or if the bucks showed up and/or bedded only during the rut. Thanks

Thanks guys!
I only had two bucks show up. Neither of them bedded, both cruised right through the bed during the rut with their nose to the ground. I think the bucks are bedded more on points in the thick stuff..that's my guess.

Nice pics!

I setup a camera on a bed a couple weeks ago just for the heck of it. I got 190 pictures in 8 days of soak. They all looked like the same mature doe & a few friends. It's about 100 yards from a good buck bedding area with a scrape area I found in march in between. A great looking rut spot!
