I'm surprised southern IA and northern MO has stayed clean. Same weather.

Its popping up. Have heard of a lot of deer found in creeks the past week, as well as people finding bucks standing in weird places, walking in slow circles. Gunna be bad I think.

Just starting to get bad around the house here. Other counties I've been to seem to have been spared for now. We have also had plenty of rain. Wettest August I can remember. Dont really understand it.

Its really spreading here quickly now, not just isolated in the eastern part of the Commonwealth.

It seems to get bad in that area around labor day thru September. Not sure why the timing is different but that's the way 2012 was too I remember.

In 2011 I picked up a bow and started hunting again - I found multiple EHD deer that season. I didnt know much at the time about it but that is most definitely what happened. Here is a pic of a nice buck that I found on a hill side adjacent to bedding area.

Rain is why it happens. The midge larvae lie dormant while it's dry. Rain that fills normally dry waterholes. Causes the offending midges to hatch in large numbers.

Just wondering what makes you think the buck in the pic was EHD. It looks like it was hard horned and had tines broke based on the antler i see. I usually found deer with some velvet attached to the antlers as it seems to catch them late august early September as they're shedding.

Just read an article where it has been found in multiple counties in Western PA as well.
