busting tresspassers with your trail cams

I don't like to pimp "competing" websites but there have been some GREAT threads over on iowawhitetail where landowners have caught tresspassers on their trail cams, turned them into law enforcement, and are in the process of getting charges pressed. Also have guys who are laying out shed antlers and putting hidden cams over the shed looking for shed thief/tresspassers. Check them out, they are really really good reads, especially since the offenders found out, came onto our site, and then tried to give a BS answer to why they were "lost".

"Lost" in this case was not wearing orange, unholstering a hand cannon a few yards after leaving a gravel road and crossing a 3 strand barb wire fence!

That's Hilarious! Not the actual act the perpertrators are performing, but the pics.

I read that top one after seeing a link to it on another forum..good read, and interesting that the trespasser actually came on there and defended himself (although he doesnt have much of an argument).

Im sure its been discussed here, but if not, lets hear some trespasser stories!

I have caught a few on our property, and a few of the people I have encountered actually had permission to be on our land, since my uncle will give pretty much anyone permission who wants to do anything except deer hunt. Ive ran into people just trial riding on horseback, trail riding on fourwheeler, small game hunting, and shed hunting..all with permission to do so.. I have however caught a few people who had no permission to be there - mostly people walking through during gun season.

We had 3 trail cams stolen & the small lock cut off one just so they could take the SD card..

Nice read, Muddy. I like the idea of using shed antlers and old camera for bait, and get a picture of the thief red handed.

I had a problem a couple years ago with two guys that were on our land. It was a couple weeks before bow season started.
I went to pull cards from my camera, and the card was gone. I knew I put one back in it. So I took the camera home knowing there was an internal memory on the camera itself that takes like 25 pics before it is full... Sure enough, I plug into my computer (usb) and there is the guy standing there in front of my camera just looking at it with a dumb look on his face... I posted the picture around at the local taverns and gas stations, and within two days I had about 5 people tell me who this guy was... I had a friend who is a county cop look into it, and long story short, the guy admitted he was there, and of course he said they were lost... I got the card back from the guy and did not press charges because these two were some real shady characters, and rumor was that they giseng hunt, and I think that's what they were doing on my land... They wrote me an apology, and I have not seen them since.

i guess everyone has some problems with trespassers. sickening when you put in all the time, effort, and $ invested and have some jerk ruin it. im glad some of these ppl get caught

About 2 years ago my son had a camera stolen from our local conservation club land. Had an idea who took it confronted the guy and got the camera back. Move ahead to Dec. 2010, while walking in my neighbors posted woods which is adjacent to our property and the club land we find sticks and a hang on stand. I should add my neighbor allows us on his property but no hunting. He tells us to take the stand down. So we take it down and leave a note on the tree. We are pretty confident its the same guy that stole the camera 2 years ago. Cant wait to see if the trespasser has enough balls to come and ask for his stand.
