George Mattis ~ Whitetail Fundamentals and Fine Points for the Hunter

Unread postby Outdoor814 » Tue Aug 15, 2017 1:28 pm

I just recently picked this book up at a yard sale for 50¢. Has anyone ever read it or know anything about George Mattis?

That book was written a long time ago and, I believe, was published by Outdoor Life magazine, or at least was part of OL's book club once upon a time. I have a copy of it and have read it once or twice. It's an interesting read and he certainly knew his stuff, but it was written long before the dawn of "modern" hunting. You won't find anything about "beast" hunting, tree stands, bow-hunting or mineral licks.

Mr. Mattis largely just took to the woods with a rifle and killed deer, usually still-hunting, sometimes stand-hunting, and sometimes driving.
