The hunt
As I sit in my back yard and listen to the sounds of the woods as the hint of a cool breeze heightens my senses I am reminded why I'm a hunter.
The sun glows like a giant orange to my West as a hear a variety of calls from birds and insects. Some constant, some intermittent but all with their own unique tone. I am reminded of why I'm a hunter
As dusk draws closer I watch a cotton wood seed drift in the opposite direction as the wind exposing the thermals and currents that are not seen by the naked eye. I am reminded of why I'm a hunter
A rustle of leaves and the sound of a dropping branch reveals a squirrel in the woods just a short distance away. These changes in patterns of the calls and tones hieghten our senses as potential game approach. I am reminded of why I'm a hunter
I catch a glimpse of a doe working the edge of the treeline between the field and my house, her motions are subtle and calculated.. I am reminded of why I'm a hunter
The sound of my sliding door opening and the call of a young child saying, "Dad it's time to play a board game"...
I am reminded why I am a father :)
As the season draws near for all of us... Enjoy the journey!

Re: The hunt
I'm getting very antsy myself. Almost all of my extra time these days are studying maps, shooting my bow, checking gear or reading info on the beast.

You had me at "...hint of a cool breeze"
Here in the north we have seen some 60 degree mornings...and cool evenings with no humidity.

Re: The hunt
Having that first real hint of fall hit your nose, and your head sweeps up like a cruising buck catching a nose full of hot doe...ain't nothing any better to get me amped up for the upcoming season!

Re: The hunt
Thanks a lot! This way of thinking makes the time in the stand really enjoyable!
I just commented to my wife yesterday, "there's a change in the air this week. It's starting to smell like hunting season"
