Coming from the big old buck slayer himself 8-)

If this was my plan, I would not be enjoying venison very often. Hopefully this year I will be starting a new trend!

If you are after meat it really doesn't matter when you kill a doe. If you are after a good buck it surely does.

Would you care to explain your thinking Stan? Thanks

I think what he means is if you are focussing on killing does you are wasting valuable time that could be applied to buck hunting. I see guys all the time hunting their best buck spots they spent so much time planning for then stick the first doe that walks past and basically end that buck hunt and ruining that spot for quite some time.

It's all a matter of priorities. If you have fun filling the freezer with meat by all means go shoot some does. If you want to be a buck killer then you have to show some restraint on other deer. A big buck kill can come at any time of the season not just the rut.

I shoot does when I know I'll have time to butcher one like a Friday or Saturday and hopefully the weather is cool. I really like being close to the truck and her facing towards it when I release my arrow. I always leave the tail gate down hoping that she'll jump right in. The few places I have permission on private the landowners are farmers and they like to see a flathead go down. My area has like 30+ deer per mile square.

I like to shoot them from October 1st till January 1st. If it's time....its time. Public does are pretty wiley. It takes some effort to fill tags. Private land can be pretty easy but I don't hunt it often. I can usually fill 1 or 2 on private quickly if need be. I will take them whenever the right opportunity arrises.

I'm a deer hunter. Not a buck hunter. To each their own though

Same here. Targets of opportunity for me.

Anytime the conditions are not right to hunt my buck spots. I go to some public land with tons of deer and try to put some meat in the freezer.

Keeps me in the woods on days I wouldn't normally go.

There is one place I go and spot and stalk with my recurve. Will be the 3rd year this year.

Never got one that way but............

what a rush trying to get close.

First chance you get. I usually wind up regretting putting it off. Here in NJ there is no bag limit on does during the 5 month bow season, which is great. Backstraps for miles! It is nice to have the freezer full early on, but I am picky about where I will kill them. Def not in a spot I know or suspect a mature buck to be hanging around.

I'm going to try and take a doe on a morning hunt when the bucks don't cooperate. That or an evening hunt when I'm short on time. In that case my only choices are A) stay home because I don't have time to drive to and sneak into good buck bedding B) quickly run out to an easy access doe spot that's close to home and doesn't require a lot of time to access the stand. I'll take B if I've got a tag

I plan on taking the first one that gives me a shot to get some meat in the freezer.
