Bucks that leave that bed walk down this tree line that I’m sitting on.

I’m surrounded by nothing but cattails and what is usually flooded timber. Killed a number of my biggest bucks within 200 yards of here. When the seasons on the line gotta go with a spot I have ultra high confidence in. Sign looks good. Lot’s of activity from early this morning after the snow fell. Best part is tracks lead into bedding and none coming out. Large tracks along with smaller tracks that branch out to a doe/fawn bedding area and the large tracks to the main primary buck bedding area.

Amazing how good 20 degrees feels even though it’s windy with strong gusts.

Wind is really picking up. Gusts must be over 30 mph.

Hope it dies down just a little bit before closing. Gonna really limit my shot distance.

SW wind coming across about 6 miles of nothing but cattails and ice beyond these trees with nothing to slow it down.

1/2 hour before closing at about 80 yards I saw a bleach white pretty wide rack moving above the shorter cattails headed my direction. The trail he was on would have led him right to my stand giving a perfect 12 yard shot. He walked into taller cattails and I lost track of him and never seen him after that. I can only assume he branched off onto another trail away from me into the taller cattails. Dang it.

Almost positive it was the buck I had straight on at 12 yards in late October. I was set up today within 50 yards of that tree. He was wide and real nice pure white rack. Hope I see him again next year.

Well that’s it for me and no buck tagged this season after 250+ hours of stand time. The bucks win this time. I’m OK with that. It was a fun journey and for me that’s all that matters.

Hunting season ends and scouting season begins immediately. No time for rest.

WY to be tough to the end Dewey. Hats off to you my friend and everyone else grinding it out. Wouldn't just be easier to sit a bean field and shoot one?

1000 miles traveled 100s of hrs on stand only to find success in the back yard the last hr on the last day of the season  So let me explain I live on 10 acres in the middle of a woods couple hundred acre block in s central wis. In which I've put in a couple food plots the past couple yrs. I don't really hunt it but keep tabs on it with cams. I spend my time an hour away on private and public. Been after some real dandys and had some great hunts but no shot opportunities. Anywho checked cams couple weeks ago n a decent buck showed up n could tell he was hurting back left leg dragging( probably hit by car). Well I hunted this past week couple times(after all these doe hunts)and passed on a couple small bucks. Was gonna head out this afternoon again decided to check cam on foodplot and seen he was there at 6:30am Figured he didn't bed to far thought I'd try for him. Well sure enough here he comes 4:45. Shot placement was high but with angle thought I might have caught lungs. Gave him a couple hrs wifey n me went back out 100 yds later there he lays  After closer inspection his hip bone is popped out he didn't look good. Thanks to all you beasts for keeping me inspired to keep at it till the end. I'm gonna try to post pics

Congrats Ramp. Great buck.

Good job taking a wounded deer out. Better that you got him rather than dying a horrible death from coyotes.
