How would you spend $400-$500 on a mobile set up?
This year (now-ish) I am going to upgrade my mobile set up. Currently I have a summit goliath. It is great for an all day gun sit but it is not so great for run and gun style archery. Im ready to make a purchase, Although I am feeling a bit indecisive. I have been planning on getting an aero hunter saddle, for the upcoming year. I know that they are coming out with a new model that might be cheaper? but the price tag for the entire kit is 427. I have some older sticks that I can use for now, a few of the places that I hunt I can use screw ins and other places have a lot of hemlocks that I can just climb. It would be next year before I could get better sticks. That is or was the plan. I also have been toying with the idea of a lw hang on/ stick set up. This is very slick as well, and seems to be the most popular beast hunting method of choice. Also my budget would be able to swing all of this now, with little tinkering needed to get started. As a plot twist I also have a sit drag on the way to at least practice sling shooting. This makes me think I could make a rock harness /sit drag minimalist saddle on the side. As far as hunting application goes I hunt Public, large and small, and private, 30 acres of mine and a few 100-300 acre lots. which of the following would you choose, and oh yeah this is VT/NH.
1. Tree saddle- new aero
or
2. LW (or xop) hang on stick set up
or
3. something else
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

i would gladly pay $500 for a great setup. i invested years designing and building my own because no one else would. it would have been a lot easier buying instead of building. i have no input on what to buy and mine aint for sale lol.

Might to to wait for Dan to roll out his sticks. Until then see if you can find a deal on some used stuff as far as a stand, look into the sit drag option for the saddle.

Right now
Alpha
Hawk Heliums are probably best until Dan has new sticks out.
Heliums didnt exist when most of us bought our lone wolf sticks.
Some like saddles personaly i prefer a solid platform.

If you are on a budget you might be able to get an aero hunter evolution used at a good price when the new aero hunter comes out. The sit drag is cheap but is comfortable IMO for those who like to lean in a saddle. If you want to sit you probably need an aero hunter or a guidos web.

Aiders $18 for webbing
BH15 seat kit $130
total of about $300
Burk, do you use a Rock Harness under your sit drag, or do you feel comfortable without?

If anyone is interested there is a spec sheet comparison between some of the best mobile set ups here......I think Dan might be trying to get an Aero Sponsored hunter on the podcast. If he does it should be an good listen.

Re: How would you spend $400-$500 on a mobile set up?
I took about that much money and customized two or three different setups to fit different climbing situations. Some parts were used and some I bought some I had other people do some mods and sewing for me. I'm on a tight budget so going all in on one setup seemed too risky for me when I decided to change it up a bit. For example .,.I took an old API alumi-lok hang on stand cut the seat frame in two to where it all folded flat onto itself welded it back to make seat smaller and lighter and replaced the noisy old canvas seat with a cloth seat ,I paracord wrapped the outside 1/3 of the stand, modified to where I put two custom made versa buttons and used two like new XOP stick straps for the tree straps that I had layin around the hunting stuff. It may seem like a lot of work but it was enjoyable cause I like to experiment and modify til it fits.

I do the same. I took some of the 2" webbing that came with it and sewed a waist belt into it and put a Cobra buckle on it. I have test fallen from about every angle I can think of and haven't slipped once.
Go where none other dare to go, and there you'll find success.
