That way you've got two steps to hang the stand.
Also a rope mod kills some weight, so I hear.

I think it's helpful to look at what side you're going to hang the stand on. I like the top step to be on the opposite side of the tree as the stand. So what I do is this:

I know the bottom and stop step will be on the same side of the stick. So say you're hanging the stand on the right. Then I put the top/bottom steps like this on the 4 sticks going up:

Top================ (stand)
left
right
left
right
Bottom=============

So if you imagine what side you hang your tree on and then envision what side the steps are on you can get them on the side you want. I saw a post here from someone who uses a muddy stick at the top too. One of the 2 step rope/cam sticks. So that's an option too. I don't like the muddy sticks though because they're heavy and don't get you as high.

That's what I'm doing. My xop sticks will do the job until then, and will make for a good second set, or back up set.

Are you also testing the stand Dewey?

Just sticks but I have no doubt the stand will be awesome as well.

The lighter the better. If someone put together an assault sized stand and 4 sticks and got the total package to weigh less than say 12 pounds while retaining stealth, saftey, etc - I would pay for that... A lot in fact. Maybe somewhere close to a G-note. Seriously. I can not impart how much I despise every pound I have to carry. I would gladly re-buy stand and sticks and pay twice what my lone wolf gear costs if it cut the weight in half. I just spent 60 bucks on Black Diamond aluminum carabiners to shave some ounces compared to my HSS steel ones.

I have never seen one in existence - but with modern manufacturing techniques I'm very surprised no one has manufactured a extreme light weight stand made from aluminum reinforced carbon fiber. Err... forget I said that... I have my own patent to file.
