Had a doe giving birth in the backyard this morning. Never saw one this late...

Late for everyone but southerners. We're right on peak fawning date for my area.

never seen a doe give birth but I have seen freshly birthed fawns the first week of july before. Sunday I saw triplets feeding with no mama in sight while I was shooting 3D. Let me get within 20yds before they bolted.

I've seen August born fawns in SC Wisconsin.

The past few seasons people have shared pics on social media of fawns w spots while theres snow on the ground! Idk the back stories but around the same time I started seeing those, people also started mumbling about bucks holding antlers longer... I was scouting a high density area last spring and actually saw a rutting buck w a doe March 5th... I got footage of it and the bed I found but the buck locked up and stayed behind trees so not many believe me...

Not unusual as I am sure many of us have seen fawns with spots yet late September-early October. Have also seen fawns early May a full month earlier than usual. There are always does that get bred very early or very late. The rut breeding has it's peak in a bell shaped curve with breeding ramping up before and trailing off at the end with a full month before and after.

Being from the South I'm just so used to a wide range of birthing dates. It's crazy down here, in separate counties 20 miles apart the rut can vary by 2 or 3 weeks. I would love to see a northern rut atleast once where the action is fast a furious instead of drawn out over months of less intensity.

I noticed last year in ky there where alot of late fawns. In late dec i seen one that looked to have spots still on its hyde! Crazy!!

Assume this scenario played out the way it looked like it was going and do the math. Time stamp is correct.

Please correct me if I am wrong but normally the fawns born this late are birthed from 1st year deer that came into estrus later in the year, for example a mature doe will come into estrus late Oct to late Nov but the fawn she had that spring and ran off in the early season reaches sexual maturity towards the tail end of the rut and into late December. These are the does that breed late and produce the late June early July fawns some of us are seeing.

If it's an area where buck/doe ratios are way off. Could be an older doe not breed until her 2nd cycle too.
