Great pics PT! Would you mind drawing up a map to show where the bed was located?

Awesome pics! I gotta mention what great cam placement that was on your part. Excellent view, far enough away they won't notice and close enough to trigger. What cam are you using?

So cool! Could you sketch up a little map and wind direction?

Uber pictures. Give us a run down on the details on the camera set up, how often you checked it, how far away from the bed, how high the camera was etc.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

really cool! Thanks for sharing. Now I didn't look at every single picture, but how many different bucks used this bed in the time frame?

Sorry guys, I meant to add some detail to my post, but ran out of time at work yesterday.

I meant to put the pictures in order, but it looks like a few of them are misplaced. The buck entered the bed 1 hour before sunrise. He got up and left 3 times during the day. The first time he left for 1.5 hours, the next time 45 minutes, and the third time was 30 minutes. When he left the bed for the day, he appears to drop straight down the hill. Other deer did the same thing.

I first hunted this point in 2015 based on cyber-scouting. I had a nice buck come move past me at 30 yards, but never presented a good shot. I went back and scouted this point in March 2016, and located a bed that was really matted down and filled with hair. I had been meaning to hang some bed cams this season, and was pretty unfamiliar with hunting hill country at the time (still am!), so I figured hanging a cam in this spot would be a useful learning tool. I returned in mid-August to hang the cam, the only problem was that it was so thick that I couldn't find the bed that I had found in March. While stumbling around looking for the other bed I found this small outcrap and noticed it was loaded with hair and big poop on the front side. I hung the cam roughly 16 ft high in a tree that was probably 15 yards away. This put the cam level with the bed, but was far enough away that it wasn't noticeable unless you knew it was there.

Mid August thru end of January.

Was it in the top 1/3 ?

If you drew a line around the top third this would be right on it.

Nocturnal wrote:That's cool it shows how often he got up to stretch and what not. How often did they use this bed?

Not often. This same buck used the bed twice in September. And there were a few other deer that bedded in this spot once, including a lone doe, in early September. I found out through hunting it again this season that this small piece of property gets a ton of pressure, and this point seems to draw a lot of that pressure. No deer bedded in this spot after the season opened.

The bed is the red dot on the map. All bedding took place on NW winds. The red trail is a heavy trail that all deer appeared to take leaving the bed.

I did hunt this once this season in the orange spot, and a lone deer left the point using the yellow trail above me.

very interesting. Seems to be a common thread with bed cams. Very little use but beds appear to be matted with a pile of hair. Timing this bed when the buck is there if he was only there a couple times. Or even once.

Did you find more beds around this area than just this one?

Good stuff.

Great pics and background info. Would love to see some pics/info/strategy from other members regarding putting cameras on beds. It's something I never even thought of doing until I found this site. Again, great stuff!

Great post. Thanks for sharing.

I have had success placing cams over beds. But I don't want to hijack the OP's thread.

Curious how you mounted the cam to the tree?
What precautions did you use if any at the time of mounting?
Did you acclimate or prepare the camera in any way?
hard work trumps talent, when talent fails to work hard
