There are several variations on how to field dress a deer. Everybody has their own way to do it. I do it in the field and don't carry pruners so that won't do for me.
One thIng to keep in mind is whether you are mounting the deer . I won't cut above the sternum field dressing if I am going to mount the deer. I reach in and do it.
