A lot of people will hunt the edges of the short pines. During rut with a gun you can have some success hunting a dim Rd that cuts through. My best hunts in pines have been after hacking in and setting up in or near a pond/marshy area. Or a natural opening, or hacking in and getting to a creek or swamp edge that is otherwise impossible to get to. On private I would have trails cut into all those little transitions on the interior. I had a really good hunt this year on public picking my way through to a small bay head.

I would focus on the wet edges.

What PK said. Little bucks and does further in the pines, big bucks on edge.

I cant speak to swampy/marshy areas, but I like edges for bedding. I've not seen any mature bucks bedding in pines. Mature bucks seem to use them as travel corridors during the rut. You'll notice rub lines along logging roads. I've had the most success between 11-2. Key in on topography...especially a good saddle if the pines have already been select cut.
