I'm not complaining so don't take this the wrong way.

Wisconsin is a very tough state to kill a big buck in if you are hunting on public land.
There is a ton of private highly managed properties throughout the state and that is where the majority of good bucks come from. I'm sure many good bucks are taken on public that wandered off the private as well.

I was talking to Greg Miller at a deer show a few years back and he said if it were not for family hunts he wouldn't even bother hunting in Wi.

I hear all the time from people who have never hunted in wi how great we have it here. There seems to be an opinion that there is a P&Y buck hiding behind every tree. This is far from the truth. If you shoot a good one on public you earned it.

One thing we do have is great genetics and in the south and central we have great feed. Bucks get big fast here.

If I were challenged to shoot a 140" buck I would go out of state.

All this being said, I find it hard to believe Wi made it on that list.

You hit the nail on the head Magic. Same goes for Iowa.......everybody also thinks Booners are hiding behind every tree there. I found out myself that just isn't true on public and like you said only hard work will get you a good buck. Sure odds of a record book buck are better in both but I will say it's so much harder to do in both compared to 10 years ago. WI has such a large range of habitat and also a huge difference in deer density. Some counties are good and while the next one over is a dead zone. I think many would be shocked how hard hunting is right now in the far northern counties. If someone can kill a mature buck up there every year they certainly earned my respect in the southern half of the state it's not nearly as big of a deal if someone does.

Seems strange that a few states are on both the best and worst list??

And no love for the gulf coast states lol

I wouldn't say NY is the absolute worst, but after living there for 10 years and now Iowa for almost 6 months; there is a marked difference in size and quantity of mature bucks.

I hunted Iowa for 10 days and saw more mature bucks in that time frame than I have ever seen here in PA. We have some here in PA, and I think the hunting is great. Just not the number of quality bucks running around.
