Newton's third law...
What goes up, must come down...
Well. I have been wanting to post about my Midwest adventure but my MacBook is on its last leg (I think it is a swollen battery, wreaking havoc on the track pad(just throwing that out there in case anyone has had that problem and knows how to fix it lol)).
Anyways I am posting this from my phone so I am not going to get real detailed.
So this season started out amazing, killed two bucks back to back before my 'planned' hunting even started. I thought I was going to have to buy a third freezer by October the way things were going.
After that quick start, everything began to unravel on subsequent hunts. Including my two out of state trips.
PA was a good time with family. Passed a buck the first day(saw 8 bucks that day) I am still unsure of. He ate apples 7-10 yards in front of me for about 10 minutes and I couldn't put an accurate age on him. He had crap for horns but really didn't look young:
He had a lot more 'sag' in his chest and neck than any of the other young bucks.
In retrospect I really do regret not shooting that buck. Not because I care about eating the tag but because it was a perfect chance to put a buck on the ground and bring my son along for his first blood trail experience. Had a blast taking him around the deer woods anyways though.
We checked out the creek and some old trees the beavers knocked down:
Showed him a deer rub:
He decided to show them how it's done:
Rest of the trip was warm, deer movement screeched to a halt.
Couple weeks later I headed out to the Midwest. I have been cyber scouting and planning for years. Ended up just going to MO and hunting opening week of gun. I had no idea what to expect as far as hunting pressure and deer numbers/quality. And I am going to leave it up to the imagination for anyone wondering...
I will just say that I have never had a problem killing deer with a rifle and I picked a very bad time in my life to start, as I had more than my fair share of opportunities to fill my tag, it was almost comical by the end of the trip. 3 strikes, I will leave it at that. And I wasn't shooting anything 'small'. Ok I will leave it at that.
Anywell...
I ended up meeting Cbay out there. That dude is awesome. First of all it became apparent pretty quick that that giant he killed this year was no fluke. That guy knows how to hunt those hills. Once I got my head out of the sand and followed his lead he showed me how to find and kill bucks in that terrain. He shortened my learning curve for that area immensely. Can't thank him enough.
Tired of typing on this phone so here are some pics:
I was lucky to find this shed. Pics don't do it justice. The mass measurements were 5 1/2", 5 1/4", 5", 4 1/2", 4". The G3 is 11" and it is chewed off:
Cut my trip short by a week because I was homesick. Got home and took the kids to the park:

Successful and killing deer are not always the same. That looks like a great time.

Out of state trips definitely do not always end in success. That is for sure. Sounds like you had a good time.

Re: Newton's third law...
I like when guys post up their stories that don't always end up in a kill. Detailing the journey is just as interesting.

Good write up man. I enjoyed the read and time with the family is always great when you can spend it outdoors or anywhere for that matter.
