All of the bucks ever I've shot or seen during November were alone and most were cruising. I had two occasions when bucks came cruising shortly after a doe went by, but they weren't together.

Most of the bucks I have killed were alone. My Ohio buck last year was chasing a doe hard core but other than that a lot of my bucks have been outside the rut.

I will say a large percentage of older bucks I've seen in the big woods have been alone and searching. My biggest that I've killed was following a doe into a cedar swamp. Better odds to see a mature deer on a doe in farmland. JoeRE said he thinks the bigger bucks that get killed by the average is because of a doe? Maybe so, my guess would be yes for farmland situation or high pressured areas. But not as much in the Bigwoods with low densities. I know a lot of factors play into it. Just my overall opinion.

Since 2007, when I started documenting kills and times, during the rut 3/3. But I will say this, the rut times change and what some deem as the rut, to me is the pre rut(which is when I see the most mature bucks on their feet) during the rut most mature bucks are locked down with a hot doe or following one coming into estrus soon. All three of my examples, the mature bucks would walk when she walked, stop when she stopped and where definitely "hot". Normally when I see mature bucks alone is pre and post rut. I would like to see the statistic on how many mature bucks are chasing hot does or chasing does not yet come into estrus that lead to kills.

The big bucks that I have killed during the rut period all have been alone. Every one of them. My buddy and I were actually talking about this, this past early November.

It's pretty much 50/50 for me but mine were all 2.5-3.5 year olds.
