What percentage of hunters are not stealthy?

Unread postby mheichelbech » Sat Nov 19, 2016 3:07 am

Curious to see what you all think of all deer hunters you encounter, are the stereotypical kind of lazy, not stealthy, tend to push deer off, patternable, etc. what percentage fall into that category versus careful and stealthy and more similar to a Beast style hunter.... maybe not all the characteristics but most.

Not sure , I don't hunt with or see a lot of hunters. I took a buddy with me bowhunting a few years back. I pointed him in the direction of a treestand and he just crashed thru the woods fast to it making noise. Later that night I told him he has to be more quiet in the woods and to sneak into his tree stand. He was a big waterfowl hunter but a novice at bowhunting and never killed a deer. So I think the novices or unsuccessful hunters aren't to stealthy.

Most of the hunters I know are not very stealth.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I think most people can be stealthy if they want to be. I think the better question could be "what percentage of hunters dont know when they need to be stealthy" Since a lot of people dont hunt with bedding in mind i would guess the percent is pretty high

I'm on the fence. It really all depend on where I'm hunting. If I'm hunting specific bedding/staging area I try to be as quite as possible. If I'm going in blind and scouting along the way I tend to be a little more reckless.

I'm deaf. A bulldozer makes less noise. Also can not hear any of the less obvious sounds made while setting up the stand.

That being said, I tend to rifle hunt more and focus on being 100 yards out as opposed to trying to set up 40 yards from a bedded buck.

Once I'm in the stand, I'm still and quiet. Just getting there is my challenge.

most of my friends that hunt are not very stealthy at all and think I'm crazy and waste a bunch of time. To each there own. I know what kind of deer they shoot and what I shoot.

Its probably a very close percentage, maybe even exact, to the number of guys that look at you like your nuts when you say your hunting bedding areas.
