It isn't only with climbers.....cinching down stand and stick straps can be just as noisy on those rough bark trees. I'll only pick a tree like that if it's all I have to work with.

We've all got stories like that. Just last weekend I had a 6 pt sneak up behind me while I was climbing the tree. It was kind of windy so lots of cover noise. I heard some leaves rustle behind me, turned around, and there he was watching me climb the tree.... at like 15 yards.. I wish I could have gotten my phone out and took a selfie with him in the background. But he didn't want to hang around for that.

Red Oaks aren't any better either in my experience.
