Re: Ground hunting during the rut
This year, I have hunted completely from the ground. Almost all of the deer I have seen have been within 10 yards and not one of them have known I was there. I ended up taking my first archery buck this year (a 6 point) along a swamp. I shot him after he walked by and he spun around and ran straight at me and almost ran me over (came within 3 foot of me... ). It has been so much fun, I will probably keep doing it. The excitement level is there when any deer come through and they are so close. I am now starting to look for areas with no trees where others cannot hunt. I am in Michigan and we have hunters everywhere. So I think having a different approach will help if I can really focus and continue to refine it. Also, this is the first year I have not been winded once because I always have the wind in my favor.
