How many bow hunters in your state?
I was reading the thread by Dirt nap about the pressure beds he finds and the amount of different types of pressure he and many others deal with.
In Nebraska we are fortunate to have lower pressure compared to what a large portion of you guys see. Obviously rifle season draws quite a bit of people out but I'm mainly a bow/muzzleloader hunter anyway.
According to the permits issued so far this year, Nebraska has issued 14,500 up to this point. I'm just curious what your permit numbers look like in your state for comparison sake. In Ne we have about 800,000 acres of public. I am yet to see another hunter out on the public ground I hunt this year, granted I know they are around because I find their stands but I haven't seen anyone yet this year. I like that alot

I think WI is something like 250,000 for bow and crossbow licenses.

I think I read that there were over 370,000 bow hunting licenses issued in NY last year.

I can't find specific archery numbers, but 1.23 million total hunting licenses in the 2014 season in Texas. Percentage wise, I would guess at least 300 thousand, probably more.

Man, I feel very fortunate actually compared to the amount of hunters you guys seem to encounter. We don't have the expansive amounts of cover and as big of public lands as alot of you but we do have great deer and alot lighter pressure during Sept and Oct which hopefully should benefit me in learning this beast style of hunting.

Do most guys in Nebraska hunt private? 800,000 acres isn't really that much, I could probably get that much public within an hour drive of me, but like stated before we have a lot of hunters in Michigan. I think 700k in rifle season

Yes, most guys def hunt private here as do I. Alot of my co-workers and other ppl I know are deer hunters (mainly rifle) and I always have to smile when the public land subject comes up.
They have this conception that public just gets pounded (it does in rifle) and that no good deer are there so they would be wasting their time. I just smile and nod my head with them lol. It's crazy how bad they look down their noses at it actually and to be honest I'm ok with it because it's just one less person I'll see there.
If it wasn't for the fact I've seen some great deer in these areas after rifle season and seen pics of the deer that were taken I'd probably have the same opinion too. I also talked with a game warden that I've known my whole life about an area I've never hunted, but I will soon. He said in the last ten years that this area has produced numerous BC bucks every year and usually a 170 in deer or better each season. I know a guy who shot a upper 180 here a few years ago.
So yes we don't have alot of public acres, but they are really good in some spots and don't receive the pressure that you guys see. That is a good combo for mature deer to survive in.

Lol we probably should haha! I recant all my previous statements...there are no good deer or public ground in Ne :). They just stay on the Iowa and Kansas sides of the border lines

Re: How many bow hunters in your state?
I couldn't find how many bow licenses are sold in Tennessee. Total licenses is about 725,000. I would guess 150,000 serious bowhunters, and another 100,000 causal ones. To be honest, most public land in Tennessee is hardly hunted in bow season. Pressure doubles in MZ season, which opens tomorrow. It will double again in two weeks when gun season opens. The pressure on the public is about to heat up,but we have enough rugged places that you can get away from a crowd if you're willing to work for it.
