Monday October 31....what a great day
Monday here in PA was about the most perfect day for Fall archery. Rut coming on, cool temps, just perfect. My wife took this week off work and what I do is try to leave early and get her setup as good as I can and then I just hunt around her in a convenient tree. I was scheduled to leave work at 2 or so...then I got the text........"I got one".....from a good buddy of mine who is a beast without knowing he is, and is one of a couple of guys I have met who just see what I can't see in the woods and knows how to hunt.
I congratulated him and asked if he needed help, which was answered with "I think I love you"...LOL.....I knew then and there that's where we were heading that afternoon. I drove home, grabbed the waders and the wife and off we went to pick him up and then 30 minutes to his hunting spot. We had 2 options to get to where the deer was....Wet or Thick......we chose thick going in, after that we chose wet going out. He already had found the buck so we made our way to it, and took some great photos, he relived the hunt, taking us around and sharing his story and showing us his setup and why it worked.....we got back to the buck, he field dressed it and we started the 1/2 mile drag, that I don't think any man could do alone, it was tough going but I enjoyed every minute of it.
We got his buck back to the truck and we got it home for him. It was such a great experience of fellowship and he was so thankful to us for helping him it really made me feel great. He knew we gave up a great evening of hunting and that made it mean so much more to him. After years of hunting solitude other than just me and the wife it really brought back memories of experiences I had when hunting was just hunting and good friends were part of that. I am not that old (41) but things have changed a lot bowhunting deer in the last 20-25 years...and this was just a throwback experience I really appreciated the opportunity to be part of.
I know we are all out there trying to score on the big one and its bigtime important to us, but if you get a chance to help a buddy, for sure take advantage of it.....it was probably the best "hunt" I have had in years as far as just plain fun and a rewarding time.

I hunt with Phade and another friend most of the time. Its not beast style (although we have certainly used info learned here), but we have a blast. I wouldn't give it up for anything. Sure we all want to kill a nice one, but I prefer to do it with friends around.
Congrats to your friend. Nice buck!

Great time. My favorite part of hunting is the memories of helping others with blood trails and the retrieval. I enjoy that as much if not more than my own. Hunting solo now more than ever that is the part I miss the most from the old days

Congrats to your friend. Helping friends retrieve deer is one of the many aspects of the hunt I enjoy as well. I know I sure appreciate it when family or a friend help me get a deer out of some of the crap I like to crawl back into.

Great post, it's really fun helping others out when they need it. I've also been the recipient of much needed help. Looking back those are some of the best memories.
