Be careful.
I'm suppose to be in a tree right now enjoying my "rutcation" that started last week. Well Saturday night while hiking out in the dark n hill country I took a tumble down a ridge with my stand and sticks and pack on my back. I got walloped in the head pretty good and my neck was sore, but felt ok just my pride was damaged I thought. Yesterday morning the alarm goes off to get up and hunt and my neck hurts like heck. My head is pounding and I was very nauseous. My first thought was concussion and I should take a break. But hey it's late October and the wind was finally right for one of my best rut funnels. I had a heck of a time hiking up the ridge in the dark with a pounding head and gear on my back. Made it and hunted until 11, couldn't take the pain anymore. Texted my wife and said I'm coming home early, she knew right away something was wrong. I stupidly drove the hour and half home and she made go into the ER. Severe concussion and they want to an MRI on my neck next week. I'm suppose to take off from hunting for 10 days. I'll be back out on Thursday god willing. I feel almost 100% better today, but I did sleep in until 10:30 this morning. I haven't done that in almost 20 years. The point to my rambling post is this. Please everyone BE CAREFUL!!!! I have hunted this land for 22 years and know every inch of it. I KNEW that after all the rain we had that hillside would be slippery. Yet I was more thinking about the next days hunt than digging my heels in and taking the hill properly. Now I'm stuck sitting at home during my favorite time of year.

Re: Be careful.
Hope you are ok. That sucks. Sounds like you will recover 100% but it will take some time.. my wife is a nueropsych doc that specializes in traumatic brain injuries so through second hand I hear a lot about it. If you have a concern I can run it by her.. let me know.
FWIW, I got a Fenix HP25R headlamp a couple weeks ago. It's crazy bright @ 1000 lumens max, but it has a good adjustable range.. down to 8 lumens maybe.
Anyway, coming out of some tough areas it was great to have. Got it mainly for blood trailing at night. Super happy with it.

Re: Be careful.
Hope you get better soon. I did the same exact thing a few weeks ago but luckily didn't get hurt at all. I learned to never decend a steep bluff without a light and concentrate on every step.

We owe it to all of us to be safe in the woods. It hurts like heck losing someone you know doing what they love in the woods. I'd hate to see it happen to anyone. Be safe brothers.
If you want to kill a deer you have to be in the woods.

Re: Be careful.
It is easy to get hurt out there and you don't need to be in a tree for it to happen.
Best wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery.

Re: Be careful.
It does not take much to bring a season to a stand still. Sounds like you are recovering fast.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Re: Be careful.
Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. I really do feel a lot better. I think I'll be going out for a hunt on public near home tomorrow. My wife doesn't like the idea, but I told her I would take it slow.

Re: Be careful.
Glad your feeling better. i realize how things can change. I was taking stand down yesterday in the dark around this limb. I was pulling my weight and balance back with my arm at a awkward angle. It felt like my bicep tore away then sharp pain and almost complete loss of strength. I was able to finish but I was hurting. I iced it down a few hours yesterday before bed it felt ok. thankfully I feel at 75percent strength again today. I'm on vacation I decided to film with my cousin and duck hunt to fill the remaining 10 days with my wi buck tag filled I'm fortunate because Yesterday I wouldn't have been able to pull bow back for sure if I was actually hunting. I will get out and shoot a doe eventually right now I'm just having fun going out with camera.

Re: Be careful.
nausea, the key symptom you described is the red flag that points to a concussion.
