Now I Understand

Unread postby keepthefevercalls » Sun Oct 30, 2016 8:11 am

I have never been much of a deer hunter. Growing up we didn't see many deer and I lost interest, so turkeys took the brunt of my time. But in the past year I have spent many hours reading posts here and asking questions, talking to fellow beasts like Bowmike, poring over topo maps and weather charts, and upgrading all my gear to a more mobile set up. I'm a meat hunter with 0 deer under my belt and I've never drawn my bow on anything but a target.
I have Sat 5 times this year and seen 9 deer, which for me is incredible. Each sit I learn something and I have not been able to stick one yet. Well Bowmike picked out a spot on my topo for me to sit this weekend as it looked like a great west wind rut funnel. I got in this morning and somebody else already had a stand up, so I moved up closer to where I thought doe bedding would be. With thermals rising I was hoping a buck would cruise through below me. I picked a tree and hung my bow up. Well, around 10am I had a squirrel bugging me, when low and behold an absolute public land PA hill country monster of a buck for our area stepped out and I couldn't do anything but be stuck in mid reach for my bow! He was probably 115, but man he must have weighed 225 or 250. He was huge. I have never seen an animal while hunting that was so impressive and intimidating. He picked me out and bounded off. Later on another smaller buck cruised through far off.

Without you guys I would still be stuck trolling around random areas and having no idea what to do. It really is like having a whole brotherhood of guides helping you out!

Just wanted to say thanks. I now understand the obsession!
