Last night I drove home from Iowa after getting my buck loaded up in the truck. I admit I was nervous driving that far at night during the peak of the rut. Amazingly I didn't see one single deer driving 4 hours thru some of the best deer country in the nation. :o

Figured I would be dodging deer the entire way.

Of course I got a few miles from home and saw two deer in the marsh.

Hunted a ditch funnel between bedding areas in West Central WI hill country today. Saw 7 for sure different bucks. They were cruising good up until 2. Unfortunately added all together they'd probably score about 160. Oh well I'll sweat it out all day again tomorrow.

 :o

Spike and "dink" in the yard about an hour ago. We live in a neighborhood so they are really roaming far and wide here in Southern Ill.

Neener,neener,neener can't shoot me!

Carol County MD

shooter behind a group of 2 mature does, 3 fawns and 2 spikes @ 12:45pm...he came in last and was locked on the lead doe who was stopped underneath me....then I screwed up and gave him a shave down the side instead of sticking it in the wheel house (quartering away).

This was on public land and 60 degrees..

I had lone does running around by themselves today. One was bleating and for sure hot and not a buck around either one. The one that I'm sure was in heat or close even bedded 50 yards from me for 2 hours. Not one buck came through.

Yesterday morning saw 7 flatheads. A group of 2, a group of 3 and another group of 2. Various ages, no bucks following. However at 10:20( before the day light savings change) a 4.5-5.5 year old stud came out. Head high just walking. Hit the cross path where the does came through but just kept going. Couldn't get a poke at him. Afternoon was dead.

This morning hunted until 11am. 1 doe getting harassed by a 4 pt, she wanted nothing to do with him. That was it. Hoping this upcoming weekend things will change for me.

NW NJ has been on fire the past few days. 3 full days of hunting, saw 19 different bucks, 5 of which were mature.

The timing is about right on schedule with most years. But I'm seeing some of the best action in years.

Odd thing is, I also saw one doe get bred earlier than I ever saw this year. Around September 26th a doe was bred in my yard. It was pure chaos. Again around mid October I had a big 8 come through the yard shadowing a doe. (thats the more average date for early breeding that I've seen) September breeding is the earliest I can ever remember witnessing though. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. If it results in a pregnancy, birth would be around April 15th if I counted right. That's pretty darn early.

I guess that's better than the tiny spotted fawn I saw feeding on mommas milk one late October. Had to be a really late drop like late July or August and doubt it survived.

The newborn fawns I've found or heard about are usually right around May 20th to 30th, so that puts the peak of conception around Oct. 31st to Nov 10th here. That ten day window has historically been the best buck movement for me too.

Bucks are moving great up to noon-1. 3 shooters in 2 days. Everybody in my party is seeing good bucks early. 2 down I seem to be 30yrds too far or too much brush.

The couple mature bucks I know of were more than likely starting to tend does November 2,3. A bonus mature buck showed the same thing
