Would you "waste a hunt"?

Unread postby mauser06 » Fri Oct 28, 2016 5:15 pm

So in the early season I had a great hunt in a swamp...

Didn't see the big bucks I was hoping...but atleast 6 or 8 different doe and atleast 2 small bucks...at dark I had other deer around that came out of the buck bedding...

Issue is...last season I hunted it after duck season and the place got hammered...the deer sign in the winter is there though...and opening day of duck seems to be the crowd drawer..

I don't know if after the duck opener if things go back to normal or if they vacate till winter or what...

If I don't hunt I will never know...if I do I potentially loose an entire day which are getting limited...

My gut says I'm dumb if I don't...it's just a bit of a drive and I don't have anything else in the area...but...if I sit a few hours and don't see action...those deer didn't vanish...I can put the stand on my back and walk till I find the hot sign...

(I think I just talked myself into the solution lol....)

Really...it'd be very rewarding to drag a buck outta there...I have more time scouting this area than any I've ever had just because the ground is so foreign to me and I was determined to figure it out...

I dont see it as wasting a hunt if you have no action. You are gaining intel and learning when and why the deer use the area. Can't kill 'em from the couch!

I'd hunt a weekday if possible.

Thanx guys! That's what my gut said after I typed and talked myself through it..

I think I would regret never knowing..even if I don't see deer I will go mobile and see if I can't find them and know in the future when and where to hunt the spot...

I had a camera in the area last year and still can't believe how many different bucks passed by it...

Probably gunna wait till the week after Halloween to hunt it..but I am off the 31st and 1st..I have both hunts planned already though lol...both I wanna hunt so I can check my cameras and see if they are worth more sits or not..(both are good for rut travel).
