Unread postby xmichalangox » Sun Oct 23, 2016 2:09 am

Last night I was setup in a new stand I put up found a fresh scrape on the way in, I then had does moving behind me, and a buck chasing them, and then around 6:30 I was about to pack up when a single doe can through with a buck chasing and grunting! So get ready everyone!!!!

I too had a buck chasing one particular doe out of the group last night. It was really fun to watch and lasted about 30-45 min. I was really hoping it would draw in a big mature buck to come investigate but no luck. I can't wait for tonight!

No chasing yet in southern mi. Last two days have seen lots of does no chasing at least in my general area. Usually don't see it till the last week of October.

We were covered up in deer last night. Lots of chasing but mostly smaller bucks. I had a good one come out of the cattails. He caught me with the swirling winds. My buddy was 150 yards from me and he had a big 10 come out, but he couldn't get the shot. Southern Wisconsin.

Got pics of a wide 6 chasing at 2am. Then this morning I grunted in a little 5. It's so exciting, I love it!!

So I'm using a trail cam for the first time-- only have one-- been placing it around a new property all year. I finally got a mineral rock a few weeks ago and put the cam on it. Its in a big stand of white and red oaks and its been raining acorns for the past 3 weeks or so.

Anyway, I have several small bucks on camera the Wednesday before last starting at 11:15 licking the mineral and eating acorns on the camera, then 10 minutes later two of the younger bucks start tickling their horns and moving each other back and forth, then another few minutes go by and most have cleared out but two bucks, and one smaller one has his white flag up, looking back over toward this bedding area (the bed I think the mature buck is in).

THEN, all I see is a big 10-point standing almost exactly where the two bucks were sparring, and everyone else has cleared out! A couple small bucks remain in view but well off from where the big guy is standing....

It was AMAZING seeing this take place over the course of 45 minutes of trail cam photos! That happens to be the first mature buck I've ever had on camera-- only hear rumors about him from the guys who had permission on this place last year before my buddy bought it. AND he's hanging out in broad daylight in the middle of the day!! I'm heading in tomorrow to set up nearby, and I'm going to do some very light rattling to see if I can draw him out similar to what I saw on the camera.
