Going to challenge myself this evening
We are getting another blast from mother nature AGAIN. Their predicting 6 to 8 Inches of snow here. We already have 2+ feet of snow on the ground now. I live and hunt In a one tag area here In Minnesota and I normally wait till the last 5 days of the season to take a doe If I'm still with out a buck. I'm really thinking about doing a ground hunt these evening and try and end my season with taking a doe on the ground. I've been hunting strictly with a recurve for 15 years and would love to take a deer from the ground and plus the conditions make It that much more fun. 21 years ago I took a doe from the ground when I was 14 years old with my compound. It's time I try and do It with my recurve In winter storm like conditions.
See you all at dark!!

Good luck Shultzy. The ground just adds to the excitement.

Re: Going to challenge myself this evening
Good luck Schultzy!
I went up to my family's hunting land a few days ago with a skid loader and tried to clear a path back to the cabin so I could spend the week up there..There was alot more snow than I anticipated, and it wouldve taken all day to get a path back in there..Then I realized how hard it would be hunting back in there with all that snow, and decided to say screw it for this year. Hope you have better luck than me (it sounds like you already are since you can at least get to your hunting spot!)
Cant wait to see some pics!

Re: Going to challenge myself this evening
Lol nurse!! Wow, froze my fingers off!! The wind picked up good blowing 15 mph I bet. My face was white half the time, felt like Magicman for a bit with all of the Ice and snow on my face. Deer didn't move much at all. After being out there 1/2 hour I started wondering myself If they would move as the wind picked up pretty good. 20 minutes before dark an adult deer came running across the field to the small food plot I was sitting by. I thought It looked like a young buck but figured I'd put a stock on It and find out for sure In case It was a doe. Got to with In 20 to 25 yards and raised my bow up but just couldn't tell for sure If It was a little buck or a doe and decided not to shoot. I watched It for another few minutes and finally saw some head gear on It's head. Not sure what buck It was but It wasn't nothing too special. Had fun none the less. Plan on doing this a few more times In the next week If I can get away from work.

Re: Going to challenge myself this evening
That is an awesome report! I too tried hunting on the ground this weekend with the intent of shooting a doe. Had 3 within 10 feet of me but no arrows were fired. Pretty awesome I love the snow and I love hunting on the ground

Cool hunt Schultzy, you'll see what you want to take I'm sure before season end.
With snow camo on isn't it an added thrill on the ground? I wait for this time of the season every year.
