Management, area, willpower. Passed an 8 last night close to 150. If you shoot the 130 the 150s not an option.

Did you mean to say you passed on 8 close to 130? If you passed on 8 close to 150, that's some crazy good land you're hunting!

Location is every bit as important as hunting ability or prowess

There is a lot to that sentence right there.

Generally speaking around here there are a good number of guys that hunt seriously who have killed 130" bucks. When you start talking 150" or bigger the list gets seriously smaller. Anybody I know of that has killed multiple over 150" is as die hard as can be know what it takes to get it done. Sure once in awhile a guy gets lucky but the ones that do it on a consistent basis are in another league. To kill a 150" anywhere is no easy task for sure. If I see a guy hunting the same areas I do and kills them quite often I start paying attention. Obviously he does his homework.

tHERe are two types. The guys that buy em, and those that earn them... Don't take that wrong, both are fine. But you can either spend an enormous amount on land, leases, or outfitters, or you can work really hard and get a great buck by determination and smarts.

Time, commitment, location, and luck some locations may require a lot more of time, commitment and luck than others.

Re: Difference between a hunter getting 130s bucks vs 150s b
TIME is a huge thing for me and the deer I choose to shoot I guess. I don't have time to scout. Heck I think actual boots on the ground this year I may have 2 hours if that. I have some general ideas on where some big bucks may be after years of hunting grounds and such. But there is pretty much no way for me to go from the general area type of hunter to the exact tree kind of hunter this year.
Looking at the calendar. I will have 8 days to hunt this year. Those day will be split in the early season to hunt a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening. Then starting mid October grouse and squirrel will come in and I hope to get my boy out on them. I may have persuaded the wife to give in to let me hunt all day on Saturdays but in the early season that seems to be a waste to me for the most part. So lets say 4 of those days I get to hunt a total of 24 hours and the rest I get to hunt a total of 32 hours. Hunting 56 hours in an entire archery season on 2 hours of boots on the ground scouting is tough to key in on the big boys. Now when I take my boy out for small game and such most of my focus will be on reading deer sign and such for November. LOL
TIME is one of the things that can get overlooked. It is not on my side right now, but once the girls get a bit more independent and corbin gets a few years on him, he and I will live in the woods. LOL I guess I am in the putting your time in stage and holding out for anything is tough right now, especially when you refuse to buy beef.

Another big difference? When the shot presents itself, you gotta make it happen. Guys get shots at 150s but many get so rattled they cannot execute. Some guys may not get as rattled with 130 as they do with 150. And then how many are "really" getting shots at 150's? Pretty sure there is some ground shrinkage if the deer actually had been killed lol.

Re: Difference between a hunter getting 130s bucks vs 150s b
This is an interesting topic to me. For myself in my area, I have what I would consider to be great hunting. But we just don't have many, or maybe even any deer in the 150" class. It seems to me there are always a few in the 130" class in the area, but even they are what I would consider to be a big shooter. So for me personally I would have to think that the biggest difference between a hunter getting a 150" vs. a 130" buck would be location. You can't kill a 150" deer if there aren't any there for you to hunt.

Let's not forget that some bucks don't even have the genetics to reach 150" or better. It takes a monster of an 8, 9, or crab claw 10 to reach 150

If they are that big I'll score them after my tag is on them.
