Early season questions

Unread postby maukings » Mon Sep 26, 2016 12:37 am

Opening day coming up in IL. Just checked the camera after four weeks and there's one good buck moving after shooting hours 9pm. Everything else is moving right before sunset.

Questions:
What stand? I have a bunch of trees picked out on a strip of land from N to S. Parking lot and access is on the northern tip. Im thinking about starting with the closest stand to the North and move down one stand every couple days. Does that sound like a good idea?

What time?
Not seeing a lot of action on the trail cam around sunrise. Just one camera and same location so take it with a grain of salt. Should I go in at 4am or just wait for noon during the early season? I'll be back the last week of October and the first week of November.

What type of area is your camera located?
Is this public land? You mentioned a parking lot so I'm assuming so...
Might post up a map of the area to give folks a better idea of how to help?

If I were you I would hunt my way from the parking lot to the back one day at a time. If you go straight to the back then you just tracked your scent all the way cross the property and could possibly burn the whole property. Burn one bridge at a time. IMO I would stick with evenings if your not seeing much morning movement on cameras.

I WOULD HUNT EVENINGS UNTIL MID OCTOBER unless you are seeing morning action. I can't really speculate on where to hunt without seeing the property.
