Dragging deer out of the swamp
I hunt by myself, What would you use (sled, game glide, etc. ) to drag a deer out of the marsh before iceover?

Sled seems to be the most popular until getting to hard ground then I like to go with a cart.

If you hunt solo and it's legal quartering and packing would be by far the best option if you are in very deep. Dragging a heavy buck out of a nasty wet marsh by yourself will turn even the strongest guy into a whimpering mess.

I use a six pack of Michelob and a cell phone :)
Seriously, I usually cut my deer right in half, throw one half over my shoulder and walk out. Legs sure aid in carrying. Usually about 40-50 pounds per half. Now those big corn fed Ohio bucks - I'd quarter them or use a plastic sled if I could not get the Razor to it.

Cut in half down the spine or across the spine?

Re: Dragging deer out of the swamp
I've used a roll up deer sled, last year I used an otter type sled. A guy can hem and haw trying different contraptions etc...it eventually comes down to a lot of hard work, usually there isn't an "easy" way.

Re: Dragging deer out of the swamp
It is a beautiful, miserable, blissful, yet painful task that is wet and bloody and leaves you exhausted, kind of like birthing a child. Except that pulling works better than pushing…
Glenns deer handle helps to keep the weight of the deer down in the water.
Other than that, just point your nose in the direction you think is out and hopefully you're right because dragging a buck the wrong way through a swamp is much worse than the right way.

Re: Dragging deer out of the swamp
I hang, skin, and quarter my deer where ever I hunt, right there where I shoot it, at the closest available tree. Put the quarters in pillow cases with drawstrings sewn in to keep bugs off. Then pack it out. I carry a 60' piece of 6mm static rope, two pulleys, and two carabiners. Saves the back from quartering it up on the ground, and gets the meat cool faster. Plus when you get home that's one extra step that you don't have to take.

Re: Dragging deer out of the swamp
have seen many use plastic sheeting to drag out deer. An old shower curtain liner will work. Its about 6 mil and already contains grommets for rope.

Re: Dragging deer out of the swamp
Now that its legal in WI I will likely be quartering using the gutless method. Unless its close enough to the road that a drag is feasible. Dragging is really hard and I have never even dragged a slob out.
