When do guys in WI (I'm in West Central) usually start to see the transition to acorns? In other words, when should we expect to see them beginning to drop enough to pull in the deer? I'm hoping it's after opener this year but have never watched it that close to know what to expect this year.

Re: Timing of acorns
Red oak family will be the first to drop. Whites will drop a little later. Reds are already starting to drop here in GA. Keep an eye out as it may happen sooner than you think.

Re: Timing of acorns
Northeast they are dropping right now. Not super heavy.
Deer are just moving on them...but really acorns start to heat up more as we near the end of Sept.
I am eyeballing them pretty close I know that. I think with an early Sept opener, you have about a week or 2 before deer are on the acorns super hard.
I am pulling cameras in spots on Friday or Saturday in my Oct spots. We shall see what they show since 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Re: Timing of acorns
Where I live in Northeastern Illinois we have a lot of burr oaks. Every year I wish they would hold off dropping their acorns till the season opener but every year they start dropping about 2 weeks before. They are dropping now.

Re: Timing of acorns
Here in NE Ia. I've noticed a few red & whites that have dropped. Located up on ridge tops & east facing that have more sun exposure. Same as leaf loss on trees, always the first ones. Deer have definitely been on em, as vegetation was trampled all around. I'd say there starting, nothing major yet, but could happen in days.
