Have you killed a P&Y buck from the ground?
Just wondering who has ever did it, and if so, did you use a pop up blind, or a natural blind made out of a tree top or something like that?
Also, if you have, let's see a pic!

Yes, these and a few more Natural blind.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Have you killed a P&Y buck from the ground?
I don't know if you would count this. I've killed two bucks that were over 125 but was with my rifle. Both were within 20 yards. I never consciously meant to be within bow range but I've shot most all of my rifle and muzzle loader deer except two maybe within easy bow range. I think it is mostly due to thickness of vegetation and/or terrain. I think I also felt I needed to be close to ensure I didn't miss.
I grew up hunting on my feet a lot. I had lots of trouble sitting still because of both mental issues and always having the wigglies. My dad and uncle taught me how to use the terrain (and there is lots of it here) to hide myself until the last moment. This also meant that often a deer was suddenly visible at a very close range. I had a lot of fun hunting like this and I saw a lot more deer doing this than I did in a tree in the beginning. Of course, I picked horrible trees to sit in lol.
The first was my first deer. I was 16 and I've been looking for that photo for over a year. He came by at 12 yards.
The other ironically was 6 years later less than a 100yds from the first in a pine tree. He was getting closer before I stopped him at roughly 35yds.

Re: Have you killed a P&Y buck from the ground?
I have never. But I was reading a magazine, and a guy from RI killed a new RI record buck from the ground. Aparently he had been hunting the deer for years, and one day he was out still hunting and scouting and he had a preminition and he crawled under a big thicket and just laid there with his crossbow and about an hour later the deer walked by and he shot it. I am sure its a load of BS but it was kind of fun to read lol.

I did, 17 yard shot sitting in tall grass and weeds.

Re: Have you killed a P&Y buck from the ground?
I have not. 99% of my hunting is from a tree. I've only shot one deer from the ground with a bow about 15 years ago. It was a doe. I hunted more from the ground back then. Had some cool encounters most of the time I got busted. Your margin for error is a lot bigger from the ground.

Re: Have you killed a P&Y buck from the ground?
There were a couple more that would not have been 125. None were from popup blinds, I hate sitting in those and don't recommend them unless you are bringing a kid along or that sort of thing. That first one was from a pretty elaborate natural blind I made by sticking a bunch of branches in the ground before the season while they still had leaves on. The rest were in more natural setups as I got better at picking setups with minimal prep. I have posted about how I do that on here before. Second and fourth were public land.
Here's the thing - the most recent three I probably would not have had an opportunity if I had limited myself to using a tree stand. There were no stand trees I could use realistically on any of them.
Almost all the bucks I have shot with a gun (mostly late season with a muzzle loader) have been from the ground, that's much easier, so at least a dozen that way.
If there was one thing I though modern hunters were too reliant on it might be their tree stand.

I have killed bucks from the ground but not anything big for P&Y.
I have seen them from the ground but not be able to seal the deal for one reason or the other.
Dandy bucks others have shot from the ground, what a thrill, congratulations!
