Please help me wrap my head around this

Unread postby keepthefevercalls » Wed Aug 17, 2016 3:52 am

Hey guys I have a question...before this year I knew nothing of j hooks, thermals, buck beds, anything. So I feel I have learned a lot.
I believe that here on public that this buck is probably already bedded by first light. But what I have drawn out is this. Red is where his bed is. Light blue is his staging area. Is the white a good idea of how he may j hook in the morning? If so, will he j hook into the staging area in the evening? This is a NW wind with thermals rising in the morning...obviously in the evening they will be dropping so I could get under him better. The Orange is my access from the parking area in purple. Unfortunately that access will cross 2 deer trails, but I can't go anywhere near the thermal tunnel without that happening.
What I mainly need to know is does this look right? I have never done anything like this in my life. Thanks!

If he is coming back right at first light, I wouldn't expect thermals to be rising at that time. The thermal effect won't really be going up until the sun is high enough to reach the lower ground and warm it up. In the evening when he gets up I would expect him to go right to the staging area. In the evening around the last half an hour I would expect the thermals to start dropping again.

Wlog,
I hadn't realized that about the thermals. Here I was trying to figure out every morning approach and thought I would have to come in from up high.
However, with this bucks sight advantage, I will still do that.

No. Thermals will be pulling straight to him in the evening. No need to j-hook.

Sidebar: did you check that micro bench right at the tip of your furthest up arrow to the left? I could see a buck hiding in that little nook for sure.

Everybody's selling dreams. I'm too cheap to buy one.

Gotcha. So my access is solid either way.
I have looked at that bench 10 times...I need to get out there and check it out
