Hunt North Dakota?

Unread postby PredatorTC » Mon Aug 15, 2016 3:17 am

Just a wild thought not sure I would do it. The girlfriend and I were talking and she has a two week break coming up and she made a joke about going on vacation. So I made a joke about going to North Dakota to chase some early season whitetails and she was on board. I have absolutely no idea if we would do it, but I figured I would post on here to see if anyone could get me excited enough about it. From what I saw on the website, the tag is only $51 for whitetail. Because of when her break ends, we could hunt September 2nd through the end of the day on the 5th. So it would only be four days, but we would show up like 3 days early to scout and try to get on a bachelor group or something. Who knows... Seeing as how she loves camping(i hate it), we could camp and save a ton of money that way. Really our only expenses would be gas (12 HR drive each way), the $50 tag, and food. So I think we could keep it super cheap. Anyone hunt this state? Any thoughts or advice?

Sounds like a great way to practice some blind run-n-gun before the real season starts. And, those deer can put some SERIOUS meat in the freezer!

Go for it! Those kind of spur of the moment adventures won't happen when you're married with children. Make the most of it while you can.

Nonresident tag is $250 plus a couple other fees so it would be $272 not $51

Crap, that changes things, Im not sure what I was looking at... Maybe I clicked resident.

If thats the case, I can probably scratch that off the list. $272 for four days of hunting is a bit steep for me.

I'm heading out there for opener, my first time there hunting deer. It was around $270 I think for the tag and habitat fee.

I'm staying at a campsite so all together with gas I'm sure I'm looking at around $500 for the trip. The wife was ok with it so I jumped on the opportunity. I suggest you do the same!

Sounds awesome to me. I absolutely love watching Lucas Cayko from whiteknuckle production get it done in N. Dakota

I have a co worker originally from Fargo. His brother never kills deer. Ever.

I hunted ND last year, there wasn't much for trees and I really had to work to find some Whitetail, but once I did it was good hunting, I missed a real nice one in what was probably my best tactical setup so far. It was loads of fun and even more walking, lots of public with little habitat on it.

I live and hunt in ND, and find that most people overlook it. It gets so much hype for waterfowl, most of the public land is set aside for that, but there is some extremely good deer hunting.
