Footage of a failed (accidental) Bump and Dump
A couple years ago I bumped a nice buck on my way to a stand on October 30th. As I sat in the stand I thought to myself" Man, the way he headed lines right up with this edge I'm on. Wouldn't that be awesome if he came back through"
Well less than an hour later he is less than 20 yards from me in the thicket. I had no open shot as you'll see in the first clip. He ended up circling around after being bumped traveling down the thicket with a cross wind. He then bedded down wind to back facing into the more open woods watching right where he saw me on my way in.
He bedded without me knowing and all I could really make out was his rack and neck. I thought he was still standing but as you will see he wasnt.
I tried snort wheezing at him a few times in my flustered state haha well he finally made his move out of the thicket. He bolted 50 yards, stopped and checked the wind. He did this two more times until he circled down wind and caught my stink.
I shut the camera off and set it on my seat once he looked like he was coming.
Things I took away from this experience:
1. Cut shooting lanes if you need to. I went in before rifle season and cut a lane right where I first filmed him and my father shot a good one the first day, same lane.
2. Ever since then I'm very leary of calling to a buck that can circle down wind of me.
3. Sometimes a softer bump is not a deal breaker.
4. I found the bed he was using this year and have a plan for it.
5.learn from mistakes
Note: I filmed this from my computer with my phone so don't expect award winning footage haha.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

After the bump did he use the same bed?

No, in the video he is laying 150-200 yards from where I kicked him up.

If you knew he was bedded would you have waited him out instead of calling? It was tough to tell he was bedded. May have been more responsive to the call once he got back up and moving. Cool video!

Yeah, I would have kept quiet. When he stood up I was cursing myself haha.
I tipped him off big time because of the calling in my opinion.

Good advice on the calling part. You don't see that happen on the tv shows although I'm sure it does!
