Entry and exit

Unread postby kurt » Fri Jul 15, 2016 3:39 pm

In the rut post we were talking about access. I don't have many what I'd call fool proof.
It's funny the private I hunt never seems big enough to really do it like I want. Some pieces of public are large enough to do a lot of different things. But on medium to small public you run into the same issues as private not enough real estate to do it properly.

When I look at public one of my first thought is okay were is the worst possible place for me to access. Were do the bucks have the biggest advantage. A lot of times because of those advantages it's the best spot. Like they get stacked in by other hunters.

Creeks , ditches, blow downs , hill country drainage lots of great things to use. Horse and cow pasture. Tips, tricks, tactics let's hear them. Wind and rain are great tools as well

Also How many fool proof entry and exit spots do you have were multiple sits aren't a problem?

I have a couple boat/canoe access points that allow me for very minimal intrusion. I once cleared 1/4 mile of a ditch with standing water that was deep enough to conceal my movement and kept scent minimal. My stand was literally 70 yds off it. Killed that target buck in 2012. I like to use water as much as I can. I'm a believer in rubber boots, regardless of what ANYONE says. But I still consider the intrusion of areas I'm hunting as detrimental.

I have a friend who uses a canoe and parks a couple miles away from his hunting spot and paddles in and climbs right up his tree. I have a couple spots where I use waders to cross a creek and up my stand leaving minimal ground scent. on small parcels you are right about not having the area to move around and have the best access. Unfortunately I sometimes have to cross crop fields to get to where I'm hunting and I hate that
