Re: Over hunting a rut stand
Looking back at the content in this thread I see a lot of discussion about deer reacting to human scent and how long is "too long" in one particular rut stand. Also have I been successful on consecutive sits in hot rut stands and burnt out stands equally.
Focusing more on the deer behavior aspect though, I came across some interesting info relative to this on a recent 9 Fingers Chronicles podcast. Dan was the most recent episode and it's the one before it with deer biologist Steve Demarais. You can find the particular study mentioned at this link http://ac.els-cdn.com/S1439179115001668 ... e2802be8cb
Kind of comical this study took place about 30 minutes from where I live and hunt. Hope everyone enjoys!

Teaching is only demonstrating that it is possible.... Learning is making it possible for yourself.

Re: Over hunting a rut stand
I shot a good buck on a rut funnel on my first sit in there. My buddy hunted it 2 days latter saw 10 bucks but they stayed out of range. So I don't think that sitting them sonsistently keeps the deer out of the area but like Dan said it's very possible the use a alternate route just to avoid the human scent that's been left in there. I've also noticed if I kill a buck in a rut set it's always the first or second time I'm in there. Just my observations not saying I'm right or wrong but I prefer to sit a spot on hot sign in the rut then move on.

Re: Over hunting a rut stand
I've pounded good rut spots or hunted an area after someone else burned up because it was doe bedding and shot mature bucks, the rut is just a wildcard so sometimes you have to throw out the rule book.
