Will you shoot a doe, with her fawn? (Poll)

Just curious how you guys feel about this...

As I get older, I find it harder and harder to take away the Mom from her fawn. I don't know, maybe I just need to toughen up.

Several things come into this for me. Is fawn button buck? If so without a doubt I will for sure. Has the doe busted me before? If so I'll take her out as well. Very rarely do I pass a doe, if I'm looking to tag one. Only way I may is if herd numbers are low, or the fawn was born late and needs mom, and even then chances are low because predators usually will take the weak.

No. Been there and done it. Fawn runs around bawling for days. We don't have enough deer where I live where its necessary. I think this year, I will hold off on shooting does period here in Maine. Any does will happen elsewhere on an out of state hunt.

The one and only time I did this was during PAs rifle season. And I wouldn't even have considered it a fawn by that time of year.

Yes. I even like doe fawns better. I only shoot does early season or late season. Since beast hunting I won't shoot if I'm set up for a buck to come out of his bed. I'll have it in my mind before I go hunting if I will shoot a doe or not

If you're killing does when your hunting big bucks you're more than likely not killing a big buck that hunt. So I consider it non productive killing does.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Yes I will but depends on when - early season probably not --- late season I have no problem taking a doe or two to balance herd and for meat and the fawns are well old enough to be on their own. The land can only support so many deer and like it or not does carry half the genetics..... if your herd becomes unbalanced with too many does your inferior bucks will be breeding a lot of them.

Only if there is more than one doe, say two adults with a fawn. Never a single doe and fawn.

With our Oct 1 opener - yea no problem, most "fawns" are not fawns anymore - they are 80+ lbs...but ONLY if I decide not to shoot the fawn (doe fawn) itself. I am not kidding either. They are really tasty. Steaks you can cut with a fork.

I don't kill does anymore but when I did would never target the one's that had fawns with them especially real early in the season. I just enjoy watching the interaction between momma and her young one's and have no desire to kill in that situation. I'm with Stanley on calling it a wasted hunt if I'm targeting a buck but then killing does in those spots. Plenty of time for filling the freezer during gun or late bow season when the fawns are taught more survival skills and can survive better on their own.

If I am going to kill a doe, it having a fawn is generally not a factor. The fawns do just fine without mama by the time season rolls around.

If it had really small fawn(s) I wouldn't.

The smallest fawn I've ever seen in November (still had spots... With long hair) was alone. I know it made it through the year.

I firmly believe they do just fine without them. They just get depressed for a few days.
