How much time and money do you on average shell out? For instant I know some of you hunt multiple states. Trying to see if this would be something I could reasonably do next year. Thanks for replies in advaced.

I went to N. Dakota 2 years ago and that cost me about $900

Thanks fellas. How much time did you put in? Where you able to scout before you showed up or was all scouting done over topo's? Also were you successful?

I've been to kansas for 7-9 days for about $700-$800. I didn't see any mature deer the first time and saw one shooter this year

This year I hunted three states. Gas for the entire trip was about $1200 (6000 tatal miles) . The first cabin I stayed at was $100 a night split by 3 guys. I spent roughly $650 with tax. My tags were $225 x 2 in NE,and $125 in the Soiux res, and $200 in SD, and $566 in Iowa. My cabin in Iowa was $75 a night. Throw in at least $1000 for food and other stuff.

Or about 5 grand.

Just curious where you hunt in MN, nothing specific but I have read about your MN hunts the past two years and we are certainly hunting some similar terrain with some open bog, cedar/ash swamps, and very thick high ground.

As a rough rule of thumb, I usually figure about $200 per-day all said and done (obviously a huge tag price like New Mexico or Montana can throw that way off). I am usually hunting public land and that includes gas, lodging, tags, etc, (No taxidermy - that is an add-on if I am lucky/successful). So, a five day hunt should be about $1000. If I plan and prepare religiously....it almost always works out at $200 per-day.

As far as scouting, Bing maps with the bird's eye view and topos do the trick. Identify potential feeding and bedding sources, then I usually hunt funnels near bedding areas (funnels can also be identified on aerials, topos). Use the first two-days to verify what you have found while sitting at home then hunt ding to dong three-days. Scout, scout - hunt.

My Missouri hunt this year cost me right around $1000. Not including the two trips I made last spring scouting (each one of those was $200-350 including gas food and lodging). I try and save a couple $100/month each month from now until November so come November I'm not worried about the cost of travel/lodging/adventure.

And that was over four weeks of hunting. I like PLH's guess of $200 a day, seems about right.

If you're close to another state you can do it for a relatively low cost. I hunted ohio 4 days in Ohio this year so far. License and deer permit total $150. Drove out each time since the public land places I've been to are about 2 - 3 hrs away. So I figure probably 150$ in gas as well. Didn't get anything, but seen two very nice bucks, nothing huge though. Wasn't able to scout much prior to season and ended up doing way too much scouting instead of hunting when i was out there. The biggest reason I hunt ohio is because your allowed to hunt there sunday and your not in pennsylvania so it gives me the opportunity to hunt 2 full days a week instead of only one. Its also nice to have another buck tag so your not tagged out after you get one. That way in case you get a free weekend or get laid off or something you can hunt. Along with that, its nice to actually look forward to getting a couple hunts in late season rather than feel like you have to. Not to mention ohio's big buck potential is decent from what I can tell. So about $300 for 4 days and the more I hunt it the $/day cost goes down especially if I'd stay out there and sleep in the car. Keeping it relatively low cost is important to me so that I'm not stressed out and don't feel pressured that I have to get something. One mistake I made was not getting in any good scouting trips in late winter/spring, that would be key. So I'd figure in some money for scouting. And I know thats long winded and it applies more to hunting a close by state but I hope some of that helps.

I'm surprised at what some of you are spending. Minus Illinois and Iowa NR tags around Minnesota aren't too spendy. A Wisconsin or a Dakota trip shouldn't cost me anymore then 500.00 dollars. Go with another person and you'll cut your gas In half too.

You wanna break that down for us? You'd probably only get a 2 day hunt for that. The tag alone is at least $200.
