Misleading title - Story just doesn't pass the common sense test.
Why hack the head off before pulling the deer out of a creek? Something screwy there.

And, if you go back to your house for a weapon to conduct a mercy killing who is going to grab their bow? Something doesn't sound right in this story.

This lost my interest at hacking the head off first.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

He doesn't deserve to keep them.
If it bleeds, we can kill it . . . .

Shady.
There are many issues that come up with this story on both sides, but more so the farmer.
Why remove the head first?
Why wait 5 days before registering?
Why would one consider destroying the rack that is valued at that kind of money?
Truly a mess

Ridiculous. If all is true, the farmer definitely didn't do the right thing.
If you want to kill a deer you have to be in the woods.
