Well, I guess it's time to bump up my hunting prep. Little things now that aren't finished will feel like big things right before opening day.

Keep on keeping on.
Prior planning prevents poor performance.
You can't grill em till you kill em.

Lol.

Everything related to deer hunting prep is pretty much where I want it to be this time of year. If it wasn't, I wouldn't sleep well till it was. Sadly not kidding

I am right where I need to be. Put a lot of time in this winter and spring. Sept 10 is the opener here. Trail cam deployment is next. Been doing a much of driving around with binos trying to get some eyeballs on some shooters.

With the lack of food in one my best spots, rethinking the idea of putting in a small clover plot.

my leg work is done so I pretty much put hunting out of my mind for the summer. I am very busy all summer and hope to sneak in a few fishing trips. I have a few things to prep but they will get done when the time is right. hopefully I will actually get some time to bow hunt this year. right now things are working out for me to be able to do that.

This is fun part of year.... watching the fawns grow and identifying what antler growth will be out there this year. Two wet springs in a row..... should be some decent growth and maybe some acorns

We got a gift this winter. And most guys that live here never took advantage of it. I got 4-5 solid months of bare ground without any green up and bare ground. Rarely happens. Probably won't happen again for awhile. Allowed me to scout a lot of new ground, learn a lot of new places.

Still will do my fair share of in-season scouting as the season progresses.

That's a good point - we had a little longer bare ground than usual too and that helped. It started greening up early in March, but cool weather slowed it down after the start.

I agree with Dave, this is a fun part of the year...a lot of stuff to watch changing. Antlers growing, crops growing, fawns dropping, food sources changing.

 It should be a fun summer. I will mainly just be shooting my bow and managing 5 trail cams.

Time used to go so slow for me. The spring and summers of the early 2 thousands were brutal. But now all the season's go by fast, especially Autumn. This is my favorite time of year

Mobile hunter so any prep work was done in the off season, just biding my time now. Pre season scouting ramps up about a week before season, don't care what the bucks are up to all summer - need to know where they are on opener. Those post velvet bucks don't act like their summer cousins.

The acorns up by me are CRAZY. Bumper crop is in order. It's gonna make it a little harder because the "old faithful" trees won't be the only sources anymore.

Go where none other dare to go, and there you'll find success.
