Milkweed in Georgia
Is there milkweed in Georgia? I have never noticed it and a google search didn't turn up much. If there isn't any around, where can I get some at?

You will probably have some chances toward the end of the summer.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Re: Milkweed in Georgia
I hunt GA but have never seen it. If you ask around on here just before the season opens most guys will send you some. I've been using cotton the last few years and while it's not as good as milkweed it does work pretty good if you pull it apart in to single strands. I also like pulling it off the stem instead of opening a zip lock or snuff can.

Re: Milkweed in Georgia
If it grows in western ky it should be around the Memphis area. I have been studying it and have never seen it. We have plenty of poke salad and thistle. I also found a friend on here nice enough to send me some. I also put some in a pot with potting soil and nothing's come up in 3 weeks. I think maybe the seeds dried out and were unviable.
I'm still trying to figure it out as well, I will be watching this thread.

Evidently we have some here although I wasn't familiar with what it even was until I started browsing the beast. I haven't encountered any since learning what it was and starting to keep an eye out.
I think you can buy Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly milkweed) at local nurseries and plant you some. From what I've read, you need to be pretty diligent about watering after planting but after it's established, it's hardy and takes care of itself.

It should be around somewhere. It isn't just plentyful here but I find it in CRP fields. Usually if you find some it is in patches of it, not just scattered around everywhere

Re: Milkweed in Georgia
I found some milkweed today while scouting!!! When I pulled one of the leaves off it had the milky white sap. I reached down and dug up two clumps of it and put it in my back pack. I tried to get all the roots and do as little damage as possible to it. I put it in a pot with some potting soil and I hope the transplant works.
Yeah there was quite a bit of it around in a certain clump area. It was half in a Crp type area the other half was in the woods a bit. I've never noticed it before today. Yeah it should be in north ms, al, and ga. I found it here in southern tn, 10-15 miles north of ms/ tn state lines.

Re: Milkweed in Georgia
I bought some from Dan for like $10. Basically the cost of shipping. You could PM Dan or Carol to see if they have any extra.
