In hunting oakwoods I often like to hang permanent stands in those multi trees with 2 or 3 trees from the same trunk, however my mobile rig cant do this because the bottom is always too big for my LW stick. So I made this beanstalk ladder, connected and adjustable at the top with a prussic hitch and carabiner. The steps are held open by a piece of 3/8" zip tie wrapped with electrical tape. It has 5 steps and plenty of slack to allow for a big trunk. Once I climb to the crotch of the tree I simply start up with my sticks. This also allows me about 8 more feet (or as high as you can reach) of height with hardly any added weight. It works great and the only cost was $13 for the 30 ft of webbing at REI. It could be done a little more complex but Im a simple guy. I may dust it with drab spray paint and get a lighter carabiner at REI but Im happy with its adjustability and ease of climbing. Climb safely it does swing a little.
any weight

Re: Beanstalk ladder
That's a great idea.
I always carry a few LW extension straps when I hunt.

That's a great idea. I need to make one of these before the season. Already know the tree I'd use it on.

Re: Beanstalk ladder
Nice idea! I like the zip ties concept to keep the steps open. Looks like you could skip the carabiner altogether if you pass the whole works thru the prussic loop (but maybe not as convenient)?

Re: Beanstalk ladder
That is definitely better than standing in front of that tree and saying "well I cant put my stand in this tree". Love the -overcome- attitude

Re: Beanstalk ladder
U could go without the biner but personally I like the biner, stuffing it through the loop is a little cumbersome. Yes 1 inch webbing 30 ft long. One thing I will add is another loop at the top so I can put the ladder on the trunk I intend to hunt in, then I can put both feet together at top and strap my first stick on.

Nice idea.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
