On January 22 a group of coyote hunters cut a track and entered the woods near my house. Some deer were kicked up and came out the other end. Two shots rang out, to which the shooter said he was shooting at a crow and a fox. The others were suspicious. When they got out to the other end the guy had taken off. Rumor has it he jumped on a plane to Costa Rica the next morning. The buck was found right away. 21" on the inside, 14" G2's. The sad part is everyone in town knows who did it, but there are no witnesses so the guy may get away with it. The dnr found the two shell casings on the road, but the bullet was a pass through. I'm sure the DNR is doing everything they can to catch him, but you still need evidence.
Another sad part is that the other hunters will all get a bad rap for one individuals poor decision. All the local landowners are furious as you can imagine.
This buck was a 10 pt that would have scored around 170 - 180 and made it through the season. Could he have hit 200 as a typical next year? Maybe.
I have a pic of it while it was still alive. You can see the blood on the ground and it has it's head up looking back at the camera, but I'm having trouble loading it on this site.
Just a sad story. A monarch doesn't deserve to go down like that.

This must be the buck poached near Shiocton. BassBoysLLP posted a link on facefook, above is a link to the news story. Frustrating story. I don't understand where the head went, did the DNR cut it off and confiscate it? There is video/pics of it still alive then a headless body.

What a shame! Even worse, the buck suffered because of unethical selfish act. Hope they bring the poacher to justice.

That's a shame. That visible though - trust me they will be caught and convicted. Slap them with a big fine and throw them in jail for a year see of they learn anything...although they probably won't.

Any deer doesn't deserve to go down like that. Who cares if it was a booner. A poacher should get the same treatment and punishment over s fawn. Have some morals, ethics, and respect for life!! I'm not too far away from the area, interested once a name pops up. I probably know him.

Thats sickening, i wonder how many people actually laid eyes on it during season. I hope one day i have the opportunity to pursue a animal of that caliber. Thats too bad he had to go out like that and not legally. That guy needs more than a slap on the wrist what a dirtbag.

Word on the street is that the guy who shot it had the balls to go back that night and cut it off. I'm not sure about that though. It could have been anyone who new about it.
