Went to check one of my cams a couple of days ago and 2 scrapes got lit up. Snow just melted and fresh dirt kicked up in both. I have 4 solid bucks on cam that spare and are together almost every night. And surprisingly still haven't dropped bone.
What are your experiences with scrapes this time of the year. Is it a good indication that this buck or bucks is/are competing for its core area? I remember Dan mentioning primary scrapes being reopened but not aware of this time of the year.

I saw a buck in full rut, chasing yesterday, it surprised me after seeing them grouped up weeks ago.

Re: Scrapes reopening??
I have seen fresh scrapes anywhere from early September all the way thru February. Seems bucks make them not always for breeding purposes.

Give a cool day in July an they will open them. But there is not much aggression there.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Re: Scrapes reopening??
I pulled a camera yesterday in a spot that I had made a mock scrape two years ago and finally posted on it in Dec. One of the best card pulls I ever had. Scrape is being hit everyday. The licking branch is destroyed. We had a serious second rut from the 1/5-1/10. Six different bucks cruising on 1/6 within 40 minutes of one another. it was crazy. All daytime pictures as well.
