A 10-point white-tailed deer shot in November by bowhunter John Kassera, 63, of Rockland was scored at 193 4/8 inches, making it the Wisconsin archery record for a typical buck, according to the Wisconsin Buck & Bear Club.
The deer was shot Nov. 5 in La Crosse County. The rack underwent the mandatory 60-day drying period and was officially measured Jan. 23 by a panel of scorers.
Kassera's buck topped the Wisconsin bowhunting record for the third time in the last four years.
A deer shot in Dodge County by Adam Hupf of Beaver Dam set the previous mark in 2014 (a 13-pointer that netted 191 6/8 inches). Before that, it was held by a 187 7/8 buck taken in 2012 in Fond du Lac County by Dusty Gerrits of Waupun.
The biggest typical whitetail taken in North America with archery equipment is a 204 4/8 inch buck shot by M.J. Johnson in 1965 in Peoria County, Ill., according to records of the Pope and Young Club.
The state record typical whitetail taken by firearms is the 206 1/8 inch buck taken in 1914 by Jim Jordan in Burnett County, according to records kept by Wisconsin Buck & Bear Club and Boone and Crockett Club. The Jordan buck is the second largest typical whitetail taken by any means.
Kassera's buck had a gross score of 201 5/8 inches, including main beams of 30 6/8 and 30 5/8, more than 42 inches of mass and five tines longer than 11 inches.
We'll have more information this week on Kassera and the record buck.

Holy 30 inch main beams.
A 200" gross 10 is just something else. There must only be a handful ever shot. Cut off his G4s and you still have a 180 inch 8 pointer...cut off his G3s and you still have a 6 pointer over 150!
Congrats to him.

Is it?
I really don't think so
I'm sure a new record is shot every year if not every other! Depends if the hunter wants the publicity or not

and his brows are not that impressive - he carries most of it in his remaining 8 and mass. Everyone keeps talking about Iowa but I don't see yearly 200 inch typical coming from there like I do Wisconsin. My prediction is the next WR Typical will come from Wisconsin w/I 5 years and the next non-typical WR will come from Oh.

Yes it is amazing IMO. We went for many years in the 80's-early 2000's where state records held for long periods of time. The last 5 years they have been falling almost every single year. I don't believe any more or less are entering them when they get that big. I'm sure there are plenty that have never been entered but that goes on pretty much anywhere when people want to keep certain areas quiet. I think it's a good sign that even though the deer population is way down the quality is increasing at a very rapid rate.
