Too bad he's not in Florida asking about when the Rut is. There is no straight answer. From South to North Florida anytime between September and February of the next year. It is all over the place depending on what part of the state you want to hunt at the time.
Hang in there Dewey, Good things come to those who wait.

Having friends that have your back is a powerful thing. I think they showed him the error of his ways. I'm a forgiving person so I won't hold it against him but being careful what I tell him in the future.
Dang now you guys got me thinking I should go after some later dates as well.

Re: Talk about a dirty trick
At work it is a given, I have the second week of November. Manager has third week an a salesman has the week of Thanksgiving.
I'm glad he come around for you. But the second week seems to be better.

I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Sounds like you might be coming down with something...you'll probably need to stay home sick that week.

Re: Talk about a dirty trick
I know you prefer the first week of November, but I would take the last week of October

Dewey wrote:Awhile back I was talking with a guy at work discussing the rut. He asked me when the peak times were and I told him it's pretty much every year the first week of November. I thought it was an innocent discussion between two hunters so didn't think anything about it and was honest with him.
Fast forward to last week when we had to schedule our vacation for the year. I got mine back and everything was approved except the first week of November. The guy put in for it and bumped me due to seniority. Everybody including that guy knows I live for that week so everyone allows me that time off. Haven't missed it in 20 years. Apparently that guy doesn't care. He's not even a serious hunter and that is the part that rubs me the wrong way the most.
Sorry for venting but I am just absolutely crushed right now. Likely drawing an Iowa tag this year makes it hurt even more.

He might have done you a favor... Rut is usually later in Iowa. I would concentrate on the second and 3rd week of November...

Good luck, I hate when life can get in the way of hunting. I'm similarly worried I'll never get the opportunity take rut vacations or anythign of the like when working all the time.
