Favorite hunting fishing by the month?
What are your must have months for outdoor activities. I don't fill every month, good thing due to time limitations, but I know when to hit some things. What are your can't miss months. Mine are below. I'm sure I'm missing some good opportunities, so what are the things to be doing each month?
Jan-x
Feb - coyote hunting
Mar- deer scouting
Apr - x
May - maybe turkeys/ foodplots
June - smallmouth on big water
July smallies some more
Aug - big water salmon/trout
Sep - prep for deer/salmon
Oct - swamp bucks
Nov - rut anywhere
Dec - farm land hunting

Jan-Dec whitetails on the brain. Always something I can do to get better. Sprinkle in random fishing days throughout, walleye, bass, pike. But 350/365 is whitetails for me.

Re: Favorite hunting fishing by the month?
Kinda maybe a problem for some or some might think im a little overboard but i try to get into other things. I dont even fish anymore unless its ice fishing even then its breifly, im 365 whitetails, alot of people make fun and laugh when they look in my vehicle and im rolling around with a spotlight and binder full of maps and my binos and a stack of deer and deer hunting magizines on my front seat and hip boots in the back. Im truly addicted to studying and hunting these animals. I and those around me have slowly watched my other hobbies fall by the wayside, personally i love it that i have such a firey passion about one thing like this, for me it just never gets old.... i burn out those around me in my life and have gotten to the point that if i talk about deer or hunting around them they just expect it or dont want to hear it in june or whatever month it may be. Dont get me wrong the freezer will have fresh perch and walleye fillets when theres ice but there will be something whitetail related done that day for me. To me its great and i dont ever want to ever lose this feeling.

January - 1. Scouting; 2. Steelhead; 3. Small Game
February - 1. Scouting; 2. Ice Fishing; 3. Small Game
March - 1. Scouting; 2. Steelhead
April - 1. Steelhead; 2. Scouting
May - 1. Bass; 2. Scouting
June - 1. Bass; 2. Walleye
July - 1. Bass; 2. Final stand prep
August - 1. Bass; 2. Salmon; 3. Dodging mosquitos
Sept - 1. Salmon; 2. Bass; 3. Scouting
Oct - 1. Deer; 2. Salmon
Nov - 1. Deer; 2. Steelhead
Dec - 1. Deer/scouting; 2. Steelhead
However, after learning all that I have from this site, scouting and deer seem to be changing the mix and overtaking most of my thoughts and available free time...I get a little obsessed that way. But I have to keep the kids involved in lots of different outdoors activities.

Re: Favorite hunting fishing by the month?
Whitetails r always number 1 on my mind also. I honestly would say everyday of the yr I think about them. My wife says that its my true love n nothing lights my eyes up like deer hunting. I feel like Bayshore said above. Some times I really have to tone it down in situations because I know others dont care n I dont wanna seem so one dimensional but if they give a lick of interest in a deer hunting conversation its on !!

I fish and small game hunt a handful of times a year, the rest of my free time goes scouting shooting or prepping my gear

Re: Favorite hunting fishing by the month?
Deer 365 just about for me. Its scouting, shed hunting, food plotting, hinge cutting, tree planting, trail cameras ,then the actual hunting is minor. I do some golfing with my buddies in the summer and a few days of Turkey hunting in spring.. Next to family and work thats all I do. I use to do quite a bit of bowfishing but since I started land management haven't done it in a few years.
